Interesting Five things Oracle can gains from Sun

  • Oracle gets to ditch low-margin hardware by fine tuning solaris running oracle database
  • Now oracle is a big teaser to IBM buy owing java over a few pennies a share more than Big Blue was willing to pay.
  • MySql will be igonerd till death. There is no chance of MySql(open source) database to mess with Oracle profits.
  • Sun has a big installed base. All the better to upsell applications into.
  • Orace can plan more focus on existing customer by integating hardware and software
And anyway Sun was relatively cheap compared to Oracle’s other acquisitions. The price was above the Hyperion buyout but below PeopleSoft and Siebel.
